I just received my Front OEM sprocket #27510-20f00 is there a front or back? Both sides look the same, unlike the rear, which is visibly marked.

I just put mine on the same way the old one came off, hopefully your old one is still on.
I am not sure it is a big problem though
Cheers TS

Here are some pics, the only distinguishable difference is a small *B1 on the first picture.

It can go on either way, makes no difference.

I don't doubt johnofchar's sound advice. I would like to point out that in the pictures the two sides don't look exactly identical to me though.
In the first picture the spines in the centre of the sprocket seem to have flattened / bevelled edges. The same spines in the second picture appear rounded.
Is that an optical illusion as a result of lighting / flash photography?

Is that a rubber cushion attached to the sprocket? My new front sprocket doesn't have that. What's the function of the rubber part?

Supposedly it keeps down the gear noise and vibration.

OK, thanks. Do I still need the washer with the new sprocket? Goes on between the sprocket and the nut right?

I just put on a JT front sprocket and of course it does not have the rubber cushions either that the stock sprocket has. Anyone notice any real difference with the rubber cushions on versus a good after market sprocket like JT? I've read they cushion the chain when doing burnouts or dumping the clutch, hard acceleration and that sort of stuff which I don't do.

The couple of aftermarket sprockets I've used were VERY noisy in comparison. For me worth it for the silence Pete

I have to agree with PeterW.
To me, there was noticeably less noise with a full-face helmet on, using the OEM sprocket with the damper. Less noise equals slightly less wear, which is nice for a long lasting chain.
The expanded diagrams of the sprocket area will show the correct orientation. I believe it has the damper side toward the outside of the engine.

Damper is on both sides & can go on either way. I'm not sure I would put JT sprockets in the good catagory. Didn't hold up well on my vee. I'll be sticking with OEM as they are very good quality & can be had in any size you see fit. http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,11480.0.html

Ok, I'm convinced to get the stock sprocket! JT stuck in my mind since the old mx days so I always thought their sprockets were still good.

John is basically correct; sprocket can be installed in either orientation. The bevels on the flutes are to ease installation on the shaft. BTW John, I just saw on another thread that you quoted the torque spec for the engine sprocket as 83 lb/ft. My manual shows 105. Is there a misprint somewhere?
Respectfully, Bill T.
From the Suzuki DL650 Service Manual
Install the engine sprocket and the washer. Apply a small quantity of THREAD LOCK to the drive shaft thread portion. a 99000-32050: THREAD LOCK "1 342" Tighten the engine sprocket nut @ to the specified torque. rn Engine sprocket nut: 145 N-m (14.5 kgf-m, 105 Ib-ft) Bend the lock washer.

Don't mix & match 650 & 1000 stuff. DL1000 is 83 lb ft & as you say the DL650 is 110 lb ft.
If I said that somewhere for the 650. Please point me to it.
