| All unread Move to top Move to bottom

I am new to the forum and new to the 2009 DL-650 Wee I bought a few months back.  I am in the process of adding a lot of mods on it (as I usually do with my bikes) and having been reading all of the posts here for the Audiovox CCS-100 installation.  I have purchased one from Murph's with the brake relay and the vacumn canister.  I am favoring John's routing on the cable installation.

Specifically, I am looking for advice on mounting locations for the CCS-100 server and the canister.  I have heard of locations ranging from back of bike, side and up in fairing.  I am looking for advice and pictures of installations.  The bike is apart and I am ready to install.

Any help is appreciated!!   I will contribute back with additional photos of the installation.

I have a 2007 which has the same component sizes. My servo just barely fits under the left side cover. Use a cable tie or two to hold it in place just in front of the frame's nearly vertical stiffener and putting the side cover on grabs it tightly. facing the cable end forward leaves a perfect distance to use John's actuation setup. Since I have a charcoal canister on the right side, I put the vacuum canister in the tail, just in front of the lights. You can bolt the base of the canister to the inside of a vertical sheet of plastic at the back of the under seat tray when the rear fender is removed. That left enough room to still fit an electric tire pump and socket wrench set on top of the tool kit and vacuum canister.

Under left cover mounting.

Thanks guys, I put the server on left side as John shows and the vacuum canister under the right cover.  I also used the same approach as John on the linkage except used the wire loop instead of the gold extension finger.  When I open the throttle, the chain drops straight down and does not touch anything. The way the connectors are shaped, they don't have any tendency to grab onto anything that would interfere with the operation of the throttle.

I did end up with one mystery that maybe someone can help me with.  After I removed and replaced the throttle bodies, I noticed one connector that I didn't have a home for.  I don't know if it was always there or if I just missed marking it for re-installation.  I just don't see where it goes. I have looked at every connector on the throttle bodies and the air box.  Here is what it looks like and where it is located:

Goes to IAT (intake air temp) sensor in/on the air box.

Greywolf,  Thanks, I missed the two pin connector on the very bottom of the air box-- hate leftovers!

Here are some pics of the locations as I have them and as you all have directed.  Hope these benefit others...

CCS-100 Left side, tight fit on cover, but works. Orient the vacuum line up and wire connector toward frame.

CCS-100 under left cover

Vacumn Canister installed on right side, lots of room

Vacumn under cover

I used the cable loop, short piece of bead and two connectors.  When operating the throttle, the cable drops straight down and does not interfere or catch on anything.

I used John's method (and others) for attaching the cable mount to the bottom screw. This needs an impact driver and you have to remove the throttle bodies to get to that bottom screw. Like others, I replaced it once out. I used a hex bolt from the CCS-100 kit.  Also, make sure you use blue locktite on the adjusting nuts and I used two stainless nuts in place of the nuts with integrated washers that come with kit. they interfere with bracket more than help.

Next up is the wiring and control mounting.  I may mount the cruise switch on custom bracket on right side (like I am used to on my GoldWing) or I will mount on left side, but sideways.  I don't like the traditional way of mounting on left side as the buttons you will use the most are on the inside and far out of reach.  However, if you turn it sideways, it is better. Decisions, decisions...

Left side sideways works best, IMO.

I'm way too OCD to live with a sideways mount just for the sake of appearance even if it works best.

Greywolf,

The thing is my left thumb is only a few inches long, whereas my right thumb is about 4 inches from the GoldWing stretch...

So, what was your thinking regarding right side?  Do you feel it is awkward?

I do have to let go of the grip to use the buttons. On the right side, that means letting go of the throttle so I didn't choose that. Each of us needs to find the best place for our individual preference.

I've always had mine on the left as pictured except once for some reason I don't remember. As wolf says, on the right it's very hard to engage smoothly having to let go of the throttle.

I was thinking of mounting right above the kill switch as close to throttle as possible. This also orients the switch so the engage is closest to your thumb--but as you say, maybe not close enough...you may have swayed me to do left side. It does solve the issue for sure of taking your hand off throttle, that would not work well..

One place I considered was inside the hand guard. Raise a finger to hit a button.

Ok, so I decided on putting the controls on the left on a single techmount bracket and bar mount I had laying around.  I can reach the set button with my left thumb.  The only sacrifice in this arrangement is that the lettering is sideways...so to balance it out, I put the Heat troller for my grips sideways!
