I'm very sorry for the late reply, but I just returned from 4 days in Sauerland, Germany, with the Strom.

I cannot believe I ever rode without the pegs in the current position. Knees have so much more room now. If you have any problems lenghtwise, give these a try. Trust me.

I did manage to grind a peg (first time too) but I'm at the extreme end of my Battlewings anyway so no problems there.

Very nice product!

Very nice looking stuff Rick.  I'll send money via PayPal for a Forkbrace, Mirror Extenders and Footpeg Lowering Kit for my 2008 DL650.  Thanks for helping the VStrom world!

I am going to inlcude a pre-bent 1/16" (0.0625") stainless rod along with the remaining stock of heavier springs.  The rod (or is it really heavy wire at this diameter?) is pre-bent to form a double ended hook.  Both the rod and heavier spring have a 1" length inside the bends to match the amount the foot peg was lowered.

I believe this simple pre-bent rod will be simpler to install and should function perfectly.  DL1000 owners please provide feedback.

I just wanted to jump in here for a second.

I'm 5'6" tall, 165 lbs, 30" inseam.  You wouldn't think the model candidate for such a modification. I recently noticed (in my old age of almost 58 years old) that my knees start to hurt after several hours of riding.  I have to stretch them out a bit to get the circulation back I guess.  So HTH have you taller guys (everybody else!) managed all this time?

I have the suspension set very soft to aid in getting footing at stops. I'm still on the very tips of my boots.  I've got about 1/8" chicken strips and have not touched down any hard parts, including the center stand (and I didn't put on the longer left peg feeler.)  I HAVE touched down the outside sole of my boot a very few times though.

This may be just the thing I need!

I'm not sure how lowered pegs would impact clearance on a lowered bike. In most cases those that needed to lower a bike would be Ok with the stock peg position. Anyone with a lowered bike done the footpeg lowering yet?

A lowered bike with lowered pegs would take a double hit on cornering clearance. Be careful out there.

I am 52, have a 30" inseam, and greatly appreciate the extra leg & kneee room provided by lowering the pegs.  The strom comes with very high pegs for a street bike, but caution is in order if you have already lowered the bike.  If that is all you have done, you are faily light (~170 pounds or less with stock springs), and haven't installed a center stand your might be OK.  However, lowering the rear end by removing pre-load/increasing the static sag allows for more rear end travel under normal conditions and therefore reduces clearance.

A center stand takes some clearance away.  I would not recommend the kit for a lowered bike with a center stand.

A heavy rider on stock springs takes clearance away too.

A really agressive rider who doesn't get his butt off the seat during turns will need more clearance.

I don't recommend the peg lowering kit if you have scrapped the pegs in the past under what would be normal riding for you.   I scraped the pegs on my 2000 Honda Saber (Cruiser) hard enough to throw my foot off the peg and it scared the crap out of me.  I haven't ever scraped a peg on my V-strom.  There is about four inches difference in peg hieght between the two.

Are you sure you need the bike lowered?  I have a 30" inseam, stiffer springs front and rear, and a Sargent seat.  Seems to work for me.

Just got your lowering kit in the mail today...and like everything else, it's another top quality product. Everything fit together like it was "factory" Here's a few shots of the finished product on my DL1000.

After testing I decided not to go with the 1.25 x 1.25 plates.  The controls could handle the move, but the brake light connection/wiring was problematic.

Money just sent thru PayPal for a DL1000 footpeg lowering kit.

I was wondering why I got a notification about my own post.

Then I wondered when my 650 became a 1000 :p

Enjoy the kit! Wink

RichlandRick and Gloria,
Thanks for the great kit!  It has given me a much more comfortable commute (80 miles round trip).
Being a detail oriented guy, I happened to notice the instructions for the brake side:
11.  Screw two jam-nuts onto the set screw.
The pictures show only one jam nut between the threaded barrel and the yoke.  I had the instructions printed and followed them, and have two jam nuts between the barrel and yoke.  I'm pretty certain now the pictures are the right way to install the brake side.  If the pix are correct, you might want to edit those instructions.
Anyway, the lowered pegs sure are more comfortable for my 35" inseam, thanks! Thumbs Up

Just got them mounted tonight. I am excited to get out for a ride, but I can already tell a big difference just sitting on the bike and taking it for a spin around the block. Thanks to Rick. Thumbs Up
