Great idea.  This could really help.

Klipkop1 - please let us know which Pro Taper SE model bar you have.  I think the ATV high is fairly close to our stock bars.  Yours look to fit well.  Any more info you can pass our way?  Thanks.

As a perhaps interesting aside: my wrists have always eventually pained me on long rides (stock bars), so before my recent trip I loosened the clamps and rotated the bars forward/down. Then I adjusted the mirror/lever assemblies back, to where they would be in the proper position. The bars were far enough forward/down that, at full lock, the plastic hand guards would bend just a bit when hitting the tank.

Voila! Very little discomfort on the trip, and that included some 12-hour days of riding, and days of intense mountain-twisties.  Of course the bars still shook like heck on rough roads, but I keep my hands light on the controls so that wasn't too much of an issue.

Keep in mind that I'm only 5'6". And shrinking.  Grin

Warhammers post updated.

It would be good if members send new handle bar pictures and info to the mods, so Warhammer or one of the other admins can update the first post as needed.

I love my new bars, MSR #11-0441, because the ends angle up from center as opposed to the original bars where the ends were angled down.  I got the bars from a dealer for $24.95.  I see them all over the internet for $21.95 plus shipping.

The dimensions are:
Width - 31.5 inches (785mm)
Rise - 6 inches (180mm)
Pullback - 3.94 inches (98mm)
Center - 4.13" (105mm)

As I mentioned in other threads, these bars have relieved the stress and discomfort I felt in my wrists and hands.  Huh?

I am having problems getting onto the Gallery, so will post a photo in a while.  In the meanwhile you can see the bars at http://mysite.verizon.net/vzepmb4x/EDP2477.jpg

Here's the photo

(PK: Rich I amended the info on top. Seems pretty similar to the Africa Twin Bars, which I tried. Agree that is much better than stock.)

It looks like the Pro Taper, Raptor ATV sport bar would be a good fit.  Anyone try this one yet?

Yo, the first picture of the XRV750 handle bars is in the original colour which IMHO, is kind of off beat to the black VStrom. Had them re-painted via Powder Coating and now it looks like this ! I love this new silver look ! Matches the Black/Silver outlook on the K4 !

What a rider would see !

Another view when approaching the bike !

Looking from the side, the handle are raised higher than the original for a more comfortable up-right riding stance.

I have also just changed to the Flanders C26 bars.  I used stock bars before in conjunction with ROX raisers and also found wrist and hand ache on long rides.  The Flanders give approximately the same height gain as ROX raisers but are angled much more comfortably giving a very natural stance.  The riding position is now much like on a Kawasaki 1000 police bike designed for all day use.  The bars are stiffer than stock and my cable runs seem more natural than with the ROX raisers fitted.  I cut off 1.375" from each end to install.  I like them a lot, I think a keeper!

I tend to slouch when I ride.  In the May and June of Motorcycle Consumer News they had a article on "Ultimate Riding Skills"  what motor officers learn.  One of the first skills taught is to ride with your back in a straight upright position.  Check out the next motor officer you see and notice how erect they ride.

The first thing I noticed it changed the position of my tailbone on the seat.  My butt no longer gets tired on long rides like it used to.  The second thing is I went from hanging on to the bars to my hands resting on the bars.  It's a much more relaxed riding position.

If you refer to the size chart link in my above post about ProTaper bars, it gives you the model numbers and dimensions of every bend they make the SE series in.

rich, does this bar bring the bar back toward you and up.  I was going to order some gen mar risers but I like this solution better. this msr bar is steel but i guess it doesn't vibrate as much?

shpclay asked:
"does this bar bring the bar back toward you and up "
"this msr bar is steel but i guess it doesn't vibrate as much?"

The ends of the bars are at a higher angle which brings the hands up to a more comfortable position.  Rotating the bars back achieves what I thought I would get with risers.

I haven't notice any vibration, including on a 550 mile highway day.

Everybody's dimensions and posture are different, but this solution really works for me.

I have decided to use the raptor sport pro taper.  I have been trying to find bar weights for this bar, no luck.  somebody must make weights for aluminum bars.

This sure is the place to be if you're thinking about doing some bar hopping.

I have arthritis in the base of my thumbs and the stock bars are killing me.  Pain and numbness sets in pretty quickly.  I find I grip the bars lightly and open my hands a bit to approximate a straighter bar angle.  I like the amount of height and the distance of the stockers but this angle or pullback has got to go.

So I've been trying to make sense of all the individual threads about bar changes.  Thanks Warhammer.  This is very helpful.

I thought about rotating the bars back to open the angle but I don't think I want the grips any lower or more forward.  I'm also trying to make sense of this idea of the bar ends angling up instead of down.  I do like the Margolis but that lower and more forward position doesn't appeal to me.  I'd love to find a solution that doesn't require buying a hundred dollars worth of new clamps.

I'll post my solution here as soon as it's done.
Can't promise I'll be able to post pics by then.

Thank you again,

Jaguzzi

Here's another option.  You'll find that most barends for aluminum bars are not wieghted, as the aluminum bars transmit less vibration than steel bars. Hence, no need for heavy weights to absorb vibration.

I've discarded my stock barends in favor of after-market handguards with the aluminum brace, and have no vibration issues.  I don't know if it is due to the weight of the aluminum brace, or the 'triangulation' formed by the aluminum brace or a combination of both, however all is well without the barend weights.  wayne

Well I have them on with no problem installing them.  These are the pro raptor bar with barends from spiegler/usa.  I had a aprilia scarabeo 150 and about four weeks got wiped out and my scooter was totaled along with me.  Want be able to compare the difference in bars for maybe 3 weeks.  There was a difference between the stock and these.  these bars come uo and toward you instead of away which should be better.
