There's nothing wrong with attaching the forward portion right where most regular crashbars mount, that area seems to be fairly stout.
The awkward looking and somewhat weak spot is where the crashbars screw to the front edge of the skidplate.
As a matter of fact old style Motech crashbars that mount to the big crossbolt and forward motor hanger could probably have a couple of curved tubes attached and run down under the sides of the motor to achieve this.
I knew I would have to defend this idea
