I just bought an '07 1000 and it didn't have an owner's manual.

I'd like to know what the plug part # is (I assume NKG) so I can have them on hand before I pull them, and not end up waiting a couple of days for the parts house to get them.  I live out in the sticks when it comes to motorcycle parts and supplies.

Thanks.

Consider using CR8EIX (Iridium) instead.

Longer life and they fire the fuel a bit better than the standard plugs.

That's what I use in all my other bikes.  Would you believe the Wee and the Yamaha FJR1300 use the same plug?

While we're here..... how many quarts needed for an oil change on the 1000, and can someone supply the oil and air filter number so I can do a cross reference, or order some?

Thanks for the replies.

These are also used in some Ferrari engines.

Despite that Wink, they are worth using for the slightly smoother running and longer life.

Why?  Have you been wearing out the standard ones prematurely?

Iridium will only make the center electrode (the iridium part) last longer.  Won't make your engine run better unless your old plugs are eroding too fast.

Save your money for more gas (for more riding) IMO.

I figure they are worth the money if it keeps me from having to do plug changes as often.

That would be true.  Except most everyone rep[laced their plugs long before they need to anyway.  A set of iridium plugs will last 100k miles.  Regular plugs are good for ~40k.  Who is going to wait that long before they replace them?  I know I don't.  I want to pull them out every 10-15k miles anyway to see how things are running.  So at that point, for ~ $10 outlay, I figure it's worth shoving a set of conventional plugs in there.

Hi everyone

while we are on the spark plug subject, i have a question:
I bought a second hand 2007 Wee Strom and changed the plugs at 54000km to put a couple of iridium one, went through all the stuff on the book about taking off fuel tank and moving radiator forward etc... The thing is while doing that i found 2 spark plugs (one off the front cylinder, right the other on the back cylinder, left ) that are not mentionned on the book so looks like there is 4 spark plugs instead of the 2 ? Is that right? The book only mentionned to change number 1 and number 2 so what are those 2 others for ?

Thanks

Yes, correct. The change to twin plug was 2007 or so.

It helps with emissions a little and allows the bike to be tuned a little leaner, so it also helps with economy.

The Iridium plugs are well worth the extra $$ considering what a bitch it is to change them in the first place. The sharp point on the Iridium plugs fires more reliably than the flat electrodes on the conventional plugs plus they last longer.

Hi Killhal, don't know what book your getting the info from, but it sounds like pre K7 model.
Go to the links section, you will see a download link for Suzuki DL650AK9 workshop manual. That will give you better info.

As Peter stated, your bike has two plugs for each head. They both do the same job and should be replaced as a set of 4.  Thumbs Up

PN it's only the K7> DL 650 that has twin plugs per head.
DL1000 all years and up to K6 and inclusive DL650 has one plug per head.

I'd normally be in the garage around now.

ND original Iridiums in my Van for 90,000  so far so good

My Honda Civic came with them

Considering on some transverse V6 you have to dissasemble 1/2 the car to get at the rear ones

My Leftover Vee wouldn't run so it got Iridiums with 3 miles on her.
