Seems like a good idea to me if it doesnt mean too much compromise elsewhere?

This morning I was looking at Trip Advisor and there appears to be plenty well reviewed hotels at under 40 euros a night for a twin/double room.

I think thats a good plan UT, we will just have to take that more direct route back towards Austria.

Probably right, but hey-ho, it should make for a good day out. Also, it might be too far round, but if time was willing, we could perhaps take a little picnic for Lunch at Lacul Vidra ?

sounds ideal, although it might be a mid morning break as it is in the first part of the circuit. 250 miles round which should be do-able in a day with no hotels to find and no luggage to pack on the bikes.

Must remember to make sure all the snacks are cheese, just for RH  Wink

I dont think we'll pass castle bran which is a shame, but is there any other 'Dracular' sites for a photo shoot en' route?

First part if we do Transalpina (67C) first, second if we do Transfagarasan (7C) first......

I think we might need to rethink. I think this is a must see for this trip and according to Google maps its 120 km from the Lake  Idea  why not turn east at the south end of the transfagarasen and loop round past Bran instead?

The roads there look good and we get to see Romania's biggest tourist attraction.

I have an even better plan

Stop at te south end of the Transfagarasan (ride it north to south) then next day ride north and round to Bran Castle and back to south side of Transfaragan.

Next day ride the Transalpina north on the way back towards Austria

Flaming I want to do both ! However, not possible, I've seen lots of castles, and as impressive as the one at Bran is, the lure of the Transalpina, a road not to be missed, and newly laid in fresh tarmac is probably too much of a draw, also, after putting the options to Tangleweed the female, she said "You're there to ride roads, do the road"  Wheely

Didnt stop you missing the best 20 miles of tarmac you will ever ride on the Col d'Vars... and that was right outside your window and you all missed it ... shame on you.

As for doing both, its more possible than some of the suggestions we have had. If we get to the southern end of the Transfagarasan for our two night base stop then we have to go back on the Transalpina anyway.
 Happy

Got to be time for one photo of the bikes with the castle in the background

What about the possibility of three nights in Sibiu ?

Day one do the Transfagarasan and Draculas gaff.

Day two do the Transfagarasan (other way round the lake this time) then the Transalpina

Day three, leave Sibiu and wend our way out of Romania

If we got to Sibiu on the Monday evening, two days in Romania, and one day leaving the place, that would mean we have to do somewhere in Hungary to Calais in four days, if we headed for Charleville-Meziers as Dino has suggested, it should be reasonably do-able.

Thoughts ?
