I stumbled on this on another forum and thought I'd add it as a reference here.

Madstad's wonderful windshield solution that has been installed by a great many 2004 - 2011 Vee and Wee owners is now available for the 2002 & 2003 Vee models.

Here is the link to the page on Madstad's website:

http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/sc.7/category.5625/.f

Here is the link to the other forum where others have posted their experience with this solution.

http://www.stromtrooper.com/dl-1000-%5B-vee%5D/77619-yes-02-windshield-solution-long-time-coming.html

I already have a MP Designs solution on my bike (they are out of business.) If I didn't already have the MP Design or if something happens to mine I would jump all over this.

Great news for long suffering 2002 & 2003 owners!

This complete package of adapter plate, brackets and screen, is no doubt a better set-up than the standard item from Suzuki.

But I'm wondering if it's still possible to put any aftermarket screen (e.g. MRA Vario) on the brackets, or does it just take the supplied item?

Price looks pretty good, coming out at about the same as a Madstad and MRA Vario combination for the 04 on models.

To Urban Tangleweed. About K2 & K3 as in topic header. Would guess that's a no unless you drill it yourself. Then you would have the two corner holes empty & mounting tab visable.

Finally, looks like a good solution for our K2/K3 bikes, like many others,
I've tried several shields with limited success, I'm going to try this
with high hopes of reducing the terrible turbulent wind noise!

Just received mine last week and mounted it on the week-end. Took a little bit of thought to figure out which way up and what side the rails went, also a little elbow grease to get it in. But, all in all, I’m happy with the results.  Thumbs Up

Do you have any pics? I've seen the website pics but some other shots of the mounts/shield would be great, did you go with 18" or the 20" screen?

I bought one last summer and have been pleased with it.  I had a 20 some inch MP Cycledesign windshield I had used about 6 years ago, and cut the lower part of the shield off.  This eliminated the previous mounting holes, as John suggested.  Then drilled mounting holes for the new Madstad, and it works great as a cold weather shield.

Looks good!, I'm tall and sit pretty high in the saddle, I've never had the buffeting problem, but I do get turbulent noisy air at the bottom of my helmet. I'm hoping this mount reduces some of the noise.

The robobrackets offer a good range of adjustability;  shield height, shield angle, and depth.  I had a set of the original Madstads for 04 + and made my own aluminum mounting bracket, and it worked pretty well.   But this new setup with the robobrackets provides more adjustability.  Only drawback to the robobobrackets is it requires an allen wrench on 4 screws to adjust, where the 04 + brackets can adjust with two knobs.  The tradeoff was worth it to me.  It may take some fiddling at first, but I suspect you'll find smooth air.

Ok, I recently purchased the madstad kit for my 02', because of my height and that I had modified my seat, they recommended the 24" screen. I haven't had much ride time with it yet but so far I'm pleased, much quieter than anything I've tried so far.

No pictures yet, but I've had my bike out a couple of time and I really notice the difference in that the wind no longer is hitting me in the chest. My wife says that she also notices the difference in the back. Wheely

Does anyone have pictures to post of the 18" or 20" screens for the K2 and K3?  I'm leaning toward the shorter one but cannot find a picture that makes it clear what size it is.

Thanks.

I've got the 24" screen and have been thinking about the 18 or 20" for the summer months but have been getting by with the 24" ok in the hot weather.

I have had my Dl1000K2 for a Year now and done the usual , Clutch by sharealike and added charging point for sat nav, changed the mrrors etc, However my Madstad Screen and plate I have never been that happy with. The Screen does its job just fine but I have no further downward adjustment and and the fit in the upper fairing leaves a gap where the previous screen just fitted flush at the topmost fitting points. On my last 400 mile round trip I noticed that the mounting plate was vibrating and buzzing at low speed. On further examination the fairing nose has sheared across at it's thinnest part between the headlights causing the top of the screen to move. I have now put the standard screen back on to avoid stressing the plastic as much. Simply gluing it will not hold for long or enable me to put madstad back on. I would like to fit a metal brace to the Screen mounting metal plate that holds it rigid possibly disguised as some sort of headlamp/bodywork protector a bit like the Hepco and Becker h/lamp Guard
I am open to Ideas so anyone else had this and permanently solved it ?  Huh?

There is a fix for this issue (02' - 03') the same cracking appears when guys were using the tall CB screen. I'll try to find the links and post it. Basically, you cut some old metal hangars and JB weld the empty space behind the thin area of the fairing. I did this mod before going to the Madstad and after 2 seasons, no issues. Here's a pic after the mod, kinda hard to see but zoom in on the pic and you can see the JB weld in the center

Mine broke riding a bad gravel road out in the Badlands-2009.  V-Strom plastic is ABS so I used some appropriate glue from an auto parts store.  It lasted over 2 years.

The second time, I reglued with Super Glue Gel with duct tape to hold it tight together until it dried.  Removed the under shield and then worked from below using JB Weld and 2 short pieces of shaped coat hanger.  Still good at this time.

Here's another post about it:

Thanks for the advice, the JB weld is on it's way via amazon.  The repair will be done as soon as I can find the time , along with the LED indicators(turn signals), Braided brake lines and new pads , accessory socket for the Sat nag etc
 Thumbs Up
