I'm sorry to say I've never had the pleasure of meeting John and not sure I even conversed by email. Memory ain't what it was. But I do remember many times looking at some informative thread and seeing all the other posts and saying to myself "Yeah, Yeah, but what does John of Char have to say?" May he rest in peace.

The first fellow I meet on this form was John, and I to am proud to of known the man behind the kep-pad only !!!

Indeed he was all-way helpful, and his tech and skills above many on our rides repairs, so I to hope to carry his hard work forward into my life and share ideas such as him.

I never meet him face to face, but I'm sure we all classed John as a true brother that we can carry in are own harts and minds.

(If there is thunder in the valley, then this will be John saying thanks to everyone for letting him be him self)

From Don Parsons in Western Canada.

Thanks to John and this site my Vstrom is so well sorted out that I hardly visit this site anymore.  I just found out of his passing and want to express my gratitude for all his contributions.  He will be missed by many.  Rest In Peace John.

I'm an old member here, active from 2005 to 2009.  John's passing is sobering indeed.  I lost touch with John after I wrecked my Strom in 2009, but remember him as devoted, tireless, patient, and wise.  My participation in this forum was to a great extent because of the excellence that he and Peter brought to the fore.  I can say truthfully that this forum was, and is, important to me and made a real difference in my life.  Too late now to tell this to John directly, but I can only hope the current admins and mods of all forums everywhere will be inspired by the example he set.

I am very sad to hear this news. John was a character and will be missed.  I had the pleasure of working with him here for a while and he was always the best.  So much knowledge and always willing to help.  We will miss you John.

What a big loss to this forum. John was such an inspiration by demonstrating the highest and best use of any internet forum that I know of. I am thankful I had the chance to read his words of wisdom and witness his generosity. RIP John.

John Weldon, who many know as john of char passed away early Saturday morning.

He has helped many in this forum with technology, answers to questions, and just general ability to figure out issues of one type or another.

He will be sorely missed by all.

It's been a year today.

John, you're not forgotten.

ib, funny you should mention, I was thinking about John yesterday when I called my old riding buddy who is having a very very tough time right now.  I met John when he road out to the first west coast (Reno) vstrom event in 2006.  There were at least 150 riders in attendance and he was the Star, so many showed up just to meet and say hello and thank you to him.  We chatted over the years and I called when he was injured in an accident and shortly thereafter when he got sick, he never rode again.  John's effort in growing this forum was without limits, he answered the same questions over and over again, what patience he had.  John was "the" expert on the vstrom, no one else was even close to his knowledge which he shared so freely.  I believe he died on 12/2/2013.  John, you are truly a Star!!!

I believe he died on 12/2/2013.  John, you are truly a Star!!!

Initial post was dated 12/2/2013. It was Monday.

Citing:

"John Weldon, who many know as john of char passed away early Saturday morning."

Saturday before that date was on 11/30/2013.

I miss him a lot. Still remember how thrilled I was back then in 2004 when I found this forum and all the wisdom about the bike I still own.

No problem. John was one of the few individuals who influenced my life a lot, although I have never seen him in person. He was a remarkable man.

John is not "resting" in peace. He's riding a vstrom in God's country.

We spoke on the phone for a long time but never did get to meet in person. Yet somehow I felt I had. He was a true good person.

It's been a long time since I've been on this site, as I haven't ridden and worked on my bike much within the past couple of years. I was wondering how John was, remembering what a huge help he was when I was installing my cruise control. I remember him telling me at the time that he was not well, but I didn't ask for details. I've thought about him since though, hoping he was alright. Now that I'm back on the site, I looked for him as I wanted to see how he was. That's how I found out about his passing a couple of years ago. This saddens me deeply. He was so generous with his time and knowledge, even when not well. That impressed me, and I was incredibly grateful. Though late to say this I suppose, I so much hope he's in a peaceful, better place, and my thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Johns time here is over. The number of people with similar interests that John had a direct impact on is amazing. Even when they never talked, pm'd, or e-mailed John directly. Always quick to help solve a new problem, he also exhibited a lot of respect for new owners trying to figure out the basic stuff. Considering how many he helped like that, I suspect most would have been......not so respectful!

Obviously a testament to John's character, compassion, and empathy. I never met John, I have learned quite a bit from him even today. It is indeed a great tribute  to a man that is so respected and revered. May we all wish that we could leave this place with some kind of legacy that reflects what our life was about. It ain't about motorcycles, Vstroms, or mechanical expertise. More about the character of a man that made such a positive contribution to many of us. Thank you John, your life continues to provide a wealth of wisdom to many of us.

God Speed John Weldon.

It was a huge deal when it happened and the news was placed in a banner for a few months after John's death. Now you are a new member who may not have known what John did for the site and you're responding to a two year old post.

Wow, I am just hearing this for the first time. I've been away from the group for many years. I was one of those first 12 at TWO and got to know John then. John was never too busy for my phone calls and stupid questions. I regret not keeping in touch after selling my Strom.

Rest in Peace Good Sir.
