For the benefit of all member, please use this thread for posting your hand guard photos together with a few word to usability.

PS 1: Please mention the V-Strom model they are on, there are three different types depending on the V-Strom model.

PS 2: For aftermarket hand guards, members are always interested to know how they mount.

I will start.

DL1000 K2- K3 style hand guards









Mounting details:



I used some extra wide washers, because otherwise the eyelets will break.



For my hands enough space, bigger hands probably could have some more space.




They are open ended. I looked with envy at the K4 style close ended hand guards when they came out. Now I think this older type is simple and fully sufficient for what I need from hand guards, which is mainly
- protection from the morning cold
- some rain protection
They should be indispensable for cold riding, in conjunction with a good pair of heated grips.

On one occasion they probably saved my hand from great pain or more, when I was hitting a car mirror when fiddling through the peak traffic here. The left hand guard snapped back onto my hand, but otherwise distributed the impact.

Acerbis Multiplo Touring.

These have a metal insert and use a separate bracket to attach on the handle bars. I got tired of breaking levers but of course once I got these the bike decided it wants to stay upright for a change.

Some notes
- They work as good as the 02 style I had in the beginning or the 04 ones I had afterwards in terms of weather protection.
- You can't use handlebar weights with these, but I can't say I miss them, I didn't notice any increase in vibration without them.
- I think they look great, they come in many colors
- Much more expensive, around $100 for the set and brackets but maybe worth it if they save a couple of levers in the future.
- No problems with windshield-tank clearance but I'm using risers and pro-taper handlebars.
- You can replace the plastic part if it breaks , or you can take it out completely in the summer while keeping just the inner bracket.

Thanks for the great pics Peter, that is exactley what I was looking for.  Seems that it should be plug and play, for me to switch over to these gaurds. They seem to use the same upper and lower mounting posts, that I currently have on my 05.

These are on my K2. I had them on stock bars and these bars which are CR high bend that I got off Flea-bay. They mounted fine on both, just a lil tinkering to get them right. They are Acerbis.

Cycra Probends with Uclamps
i had the zuk ones on my SV and they cracked from a drop from the centerstand so I skipped them for my DL, the bars are pro bend SE mid ATV

Suzuki didn't really say anything about the hand guards for '07. They just took them off the list of accessories. I put them on anyway and had no problems.

They are now showing again in the parts list, which is an improvement, but are marked "backorder"; I guess that's progress...

These are slick, so looked them up on the KTM site and it looks like you need to order the guard mounts with them ($42.95), so might want to check before ordering.

What you need:
I ordered the KTM hand guards from the cyclehutt and installed them on my Wee. No additional parts are required. No additional guard mounts are necessary. The hand guards for $49.99 include everything necessary. I ordered the black model. I installed them on my Magura EX handlebars. Fit nice and look great.

The KTM handguards are actually made by Polisport, called Polisport sharp.

I found a set locally at a bike shop back in 04 for my wee, and I agree they look like they came with the bike, they have a kinda bat wing look about them.

Western Power Sports distributes them here in the US. I've tried to locate a web address to post here with little luck but you should be able to see them by googling this title:

Anyone else done this?

5/8 hole drilled with a spade type wood drill bit and then for winter I cover with 5/8 plastic hole cover. Works well for me.

Used standard Suzuki Hand guard.

FWIW....I think the Zook hand guards are actually a great value.  I think I paid $35 for my kit and they look good to boot.  There are way better choices than stock for protection if off-road is your thing, but for the street and mild dirt use the stock guards are actually pretty nice.  My $.02

Thanks... I believe you are correct... and the designation seems to be that they are from the 02/04 era.  I am trying to decide which units to put on the 650's thatg we use.. More for weather protection than anything else... but they certainly help when a rider gets to close to things hard mounted to cars or the ground.. (had someone hit a mailbox actually!)
